Known in Italy as the “Town of a Hundred Horizons” for its unique placement atop a hill, Asolo is one of the country’s most beautiful villages. As you drive up the winding roads to reach the town’s center you pass countless villas and palaces, once inhabited by poets, famous travelers, movie stars and even royalty of the past. If you look up, standing strong atop the hill is The Rocca, the ruins of an incredible fortress from which you can take in the most outstanding panoramic view. When you reach the piazza you can take a seat at Caffè Centrale and enjoy a cappuccino or delicious gelato or perhaps visit Pizzeria Cornaro for a tasty genuine Italian pizza. After indulging in some retail therapy at the lovely boutiques, stop by the Castle of Queen Caterina Cornaro, the Queen of Cyrpus who was granted Asolo by the Republic of Venice in the 16th century. A visit to the Cathedral where you can view famous paintings by Lorenzo Lotto or the Civic Museum is an ideal excursion for the art lover. Be sure to save time for The Church of Sant'Anna, a small oasis on the top of a hill, where you can visit the tomb of the world famous actress Eleonora Duse.
